about

The chorus for this song come to me while I was sitting on the deck of a friend's cottage. I had been fooling around with the chord progression over and over and the words just came out to fit it. Once I realized it worked I ran over to get my little moleskin book and started writing verses.

The first verse comes from remembering what it feels like when you are so frustrated or depressed that nothing seems worth doing. The second verse reminds me of noticing someone attractive on a crowded bus or subway and the second two lines actually made me think of those ridiculous AXE commercials where guys and girls were literally running into each other and blowing up.

The third verse is much more personal. I get cold super easy, hence the blue lips line and have always been a bit scared that my attraction to women will cause a problem within my relationship.

lyrics

Whatever You Can Get Away With (Gladstone)

Does it matter what we do?
Does it matter what we say?
Does the world keep turning if we stay at home that day?

Chorus
Do what you do, do what you say
Do whatever you can get away with
(repeat)

If I steal a look at you
If you steal a look at me
Will our worlds collide?
Will we, be happy?

Chorus

When my lips turn blue
When I go astray
Can I still come home?
Will it, be OK?

Does it matter what we do?
Does it matter what we say?
Does it matter what we do?
Does it matter what we say?

Chorus
